Stonecliff is a ghost story adapted from Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw — reimagined not in Bly, England, not in 1898, but here: the Hudson Valley, New York, this summer, this country, this reckoning.
A French au pair arrives at a Federal-style estate above the Hudson River to care for two orphaned children. The house is beautiful. The dead are still there. The children see them. They have never been afraid.
It is a contained work: four principal characters, one estate, one summer. Its question is simple: what does it cost a woman to see the truth, when no one around her is willing to see it too.
